Situated in a walkers paradise in the heart of the Lake District, the Great Langdale National Trust Campsite is a great option for anyone planning their next trip to the area.

Price
The Great Langdale campsite costs vary, depending on a number of factors, but you can save £5 if you don’t take a car. Pricing is done based on pitch size, for more information go to their website. It is worth noting that if you book ahead, there is a minimum stay of 2 nights. However, there is a policy of not turning away backpackers as there is more space than just the 120 bookable pitches.

Unlike most campsites, they don’t have any surprise charges for showers and power. If you’re planning on doing some laundry you’ll have to pay.
Facilities
Facilities are very good at the Great Langdale campsite, with two modern toilet and shower blocks. These were free, and are kept in great condition, with regular Covid cleaning – a very 2020 feature. There is also a drying room, which is also free – a huge bonus – but if you come when the campsite is busy, these may well be full.

There are also sinks and the like for washing up, and laundry facilities – the one thing in the campsite you have to pay for.
There’s even a campsite shop, which is well stocked. There’s plenty of food and the like as well as OS maps of the surrounding area. You can even get fresh croissants every morning!

Phone Service
Being in such a remote location, there’s no phone service; to connect to the outside world, you can either use the phone at the campsite reception, or use the WiFi in one of the three pubs within a kilometres walk.
Location
This is where the Great Langdale National Trust campsite excels. It is in the middle of the Lake District, surrounded by looming mountains. There’s a huge variety of hiking right from the campsite’s gate, like the stunning Langdale Pikes. You can even tackle Scarfell Pike if you’re up for a tough day’s walk. On our Gold DofE we climbed both Pike of Blisco and the rocky Crinkle Crags right from the campsite.
Surprisingly for such a remote valley, there are also 3 pubs a short walk away, and even a bus stopping right outside the campsite, both of which are huge bonus.

Overall
All in all, the Great Langdale National Trust campsite is a great campsite in a great location, which unlike many others doesn’t charge for most facilities. If you’re planning a trip to the area, I cannot recommend this campsite enough. Having said this, as it is a very popular campsite, you may struggle to book in the peak of the season – so plan ahead!
